Motor Vehicles: Theft
Monday 26th November 2018

Asked by: James Cartlidge (Conservative - South Suffolk)

Question to the Department for Transport:

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what assessment he has made of the effect on insurance premiums of theft from commercial vehicles.

Answered by Jesse Norman - Shadow Leader of the House of Commons

Theft from commercial vehicles is not a risk required by law to be covered by motor insurance although it can often be purchased as an added extra.

The setting of premiums is a commercial decision for individual insurers and the Government does not generally intervene or seek to control the market.

The independent financial services regulators, the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority, regularly monitor the insurance market to make sure that it functions well.

Rail Update

"I very much welcome my right hon. Friend’s statement. I totally support greater unification of train and track. Written Question
Marks Tey Station
Wednesday 1st November 2017

Asked by: James Cartlidge (Conservative - South Suffolk)

Question to the Department for Transport:

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what assessment he has made of accessibility at Marks Tey railway station.

Answered by Paul Maynard

Marks Tey station currently has step free access to both platforms but no step free interchange between them.

Much of our station infrastructure is Victorian and is therefore not accessible to many disabled passengers. In recognition of the scale of the problem there has been, over successive administrations, a gradual improvement approach and stations have been selected for funding through a prioritisation and assessment process.

All of the available Access for All funding has now been allocated to projects until Spring 2019. We are committed to continuing to invest in the accessibility of the railway after 2019 and will confirm the way in which we will deliver this later in the year.
