To ask the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, how many and what proportion of (a) cars and (b) other vehicles used by her Department were made in Britain.

The Government Car service (GCS) provides vehicles to a number of Government departments. Due to logistical and operational reasons the type of vehicles deployed at each department can vary on a daily or weekly basis. The GCS fleet currently has 122 vehicles, 58 (48%) of which are vehicles made in Britain.

The Department is onboarded to the Government Property Agency (GPA). GPA is the landlord or building manager at the Department’s office occupations, where the space is often shared with several other tenant organisations. The Department buys catering services, or a share of, direct from GPA alongside all other building services.

The Department for Transport complies with the relevant legal and regulatory framework when procuring food and drinks for use in its canteens and restaurants. Contracts include a requirement to comply with the mandatory standards of the Government Buying Standard (GBS) for food and catering services.

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what his Department's policy is on the procurement of (a) food and (b) drinks produced in Britain for use in its canteens and restaurants.

The Government Property Agency (GPA) is responsible for the procurement of food and drink for canteens and restaurants in a number of government buildings across Britain, including Defra buildings.
Contractually, all suppliers appointed by GPA are required to comply with the Government Buying Standards, owned by Defra.
The relevant part of the standards is local and environmentally sustainable sourcing.
Wherever possible, food sourcing should prioritise locally produced food and food produced to higher environmental production standards. Contracting authorities and/or tier 1 suppliers should aim for at least 50% of food spend to be on locally produced food or food certified to higher environmental production standards. Progress towards this target must be reported annually.
This contractual provision will be monitored as part of the governance and report requirements of GPA's new contracts.

FCDO Flag cars are procured in line with a 2017 Ministerial decision to promote a globally recognised British Brand. Fleet cars procurement is at discretion of Posts. Jaguar and Land Rover (JLR) are always the preferred option, covering 126 of the 181 (70 percent) Countries/Territories presence. Where JLR are unable to provide support (JLR in country warranty management/ maintenance) in fragile environments Toyota Land Cruiser is the preferred alternative. We do not hold data on the number and proportion of FCDO cars and other vehicles that were made in Britain, however of the countries with JLR presence, 98 percent (124) are being supplied with JLR vehicles including 3-4 countries that do not have a dealership but are close enough to be served by a country with a JLR representative.
