Written Question
Department for Energy and Climate Change: Human Rights Act 1998
Friday 4th March 2016

Asked by: Jonathan Ashworth (Labour (Co-op) - Leicester South)

Question to the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy:

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, how many civil law suits have been brought against her Department based either wholly or partially on grounds provided by the Human Rights Act 1998; how many such suits were settled out of court before a court judgment was delivered; and how much such settlements have cost the public purse since 2010.

Answered by Andrea Leadsom - Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Department of Health and Social Care)

When the Human Rights Act came into force, no specific arrangements were put in place by the then government to record cases in the way requested.

Litigants in civil cases can rely on arguments based wholly or partly on the Human Rights Act 1998. In some cases, the Act is relied on in addition to other claims. Neither Government Legal Department (GLD) records nor the County and High Courts case management systems distinguish between cases where the Act is invoked and cases where it is not. As a result, there are not currently data published which distinguish between cases where the Human Rights Act was or was not invoked.

Written Question
Department for Energy and Climate Change: Publications
Monday 29th February 2016

Asked by: Jonathan Ashworth (Labour (Co-op) - Leicester South)

Question to the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy:

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, how many (a) publications, (b) consultation documents and (c) circulars her Department has issued since August 2012; and what the title was of each such publication, consultation document or circular.

Answered by Andrea Leadsom - Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Department of Health and Social Care)

DECC migrated to gov.uk in Jan 2013. Archives of the old DECC website (www.decc.gov.uk) are available from the National Archives:

http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/*/http://www.decc.gov.uk/.

From Jan 2013 to date, DECC published a total of 2513 publications and 181 consultations.

Some consultations from before Jan 2013 are included on gov.uk, as the responses to these consultations were published after the Jan 2013 migration. It has not been possible to identify every single piece of material requested due to the migration to the new Gov.UK system in January 2013, and the disproportionate cost involved.

A complete list of all DECC publications can be found at:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications?keywords=&publication_filter_option=all&topics%5B%5D=all&departments%5B%5D=department-of-energy-climate-change&official_document_status=all&world_locations%5B%5D=all&from_date=01%2F01%2F2013&to_date=&commit=Refresh+results.

DECC publishes a regular email newsletter (DECC Review) to stakeholders. This has been published 47 times since 1 August 2012.

Question to the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy:

To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, how many meetings he has held with UK Trade and Investment trade envoys since May 2015.

Answered by Anna Soubry

My Rt hon Friend the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills hosted a roundtable alongside my noble Friend Lord Maude of Horsham at the House of Lords for all Trade Envoys on 9th February 2016. To the best of our knowledge, my Rt hon Friend the Secretary of State has not held individual meetings with any of the Trade Envoys.
