To ask the Secretary of State for International Trade, pursuant to the Answer of 13 January 2017 to Question 58975, what the Government's policy is on the modernisation of EU trade defence measures.

The UK agrees that EU trade defence instruments should be modernised, but we remain strongly opposed to the European Commission’s proposal in its current form.

To ask the Secretary of State for International Trade, pursuant to the Answer of 23 January 2017 to Question 60541, if he will list the number of employees in each of the permanent trade offices in the 108 overseas markets.

As of July 2016, the department employed 1256 staff across its trade offices in overseas markets. Details of UK trade offices will be updated on Gov.uk in due course.

To ask the Secretary of State for International Trade, what the locations are of permanent UK trade offices outside the UK.

The UK has permanent Trade Offices in 108 overseas markets and has operations in 175 locations across those markets. Following the machinery of government changes after the appointment of the Prime Minister in July 2016, updated details of Trade Offices will be published in due course. In the meantime, details can be found within the Exporting country guides on Gov.uk.

To ask the Secretary of State for International Trade, what proportion of policy-making civil servants in his Department is based in London.

All Trade Policy Group officials, except one, are based in London, as are the policy making officials in UK Export Finance. The rest of the department is primarily engaged in operational delivery.
