Written Question
Home Office: ICT
Monday 13th May 2024

Asked by: Matt Rodda (Labour - Reading Central)

Question to the Home Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, with reference to the guidance by the Central Digital and Data Office entitled Guidance on the Legacy IT Risk Assessment Framework, published on 29 September 2023, a) how many red-rated IT systems are used by his Department; and how many red-rated IT systems have been identified since 4 December 2023.

Answered by Chris Philp - Shadow Home Secretary

The Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO), in the Cabinet Office, has established a programme to support departments managing legacy IT. CDDO has agreed a framework to identify ‘red-rated’ systems, indicating high levels of risk surrounding certain assets within the IT estate. Departments have committed to have remediation plans in place for these systems by next year (2025).

It is not appropriate to release sensitive information held about specific red-rated systems or more detailed plans for remediation within Home Office IT estate, as this information could indicate which systems are at risk, and may highlight potential security vulnerabilities.

Question to the Home Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, pursuant to the Answer of 29 November 2023 to Question 3660 on Home Office: ICT, if he will publish details of the four red-rated legacy systems.

Answered by Chris Philp - Shadow Home Secretary

The information held about Red Rated Systems is sensitive for both commercial and security reasons.

Each legacy system in the department is closely monitored and has a remediation programme in place to mitigate or completely remove the legacy elements.

Answered by Chris Philp - Shadow Home Secretary

We do not currently hold data on the amount of money that has been spent on current and legacy IT infrastructure.

As of the most recent update to Public Accounts Committee in December 2022, four systems are deemed Red Rated Legacy systems. There are active update programmes working to replace each of these.

Written Question
Visas: Ukraine
Thursday 14th April 2022

Asked by: Matt Rodda (Labour - Reading Central)

Question to the Home Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what support is being provided to severely disabled individuals applying to the Ukraine Family Scheme, who meet the eligibility requirements for the scheme, but cannot attend a visa application centre in person as a result of their disability and do not have a Ukrainian international passport which would enable them to apply online.

Answered by Kevin Foster

In the event an applicant does not have a Ukrainian passport and cannot attend a visa centre, then they should apply online and set out their circumstances which will then be taken into consideration. This will allow the case working team to make special arrangements or, should this not be possible, have discretion of issuing a waiver to the biometric requirement which will be granted on a case-by-case basis, based on the circumstances faced by the individual concerned.
