Speech in Westminster Hall - Tue 12 Sep 2017
Foreign Direct Investment 2016-17
"I completely agree, and I very much welcome the hon. Lady’s intervention. The figures are a sign of strength in the United Kingdom, not in the separatist agenda that she and her party would pursue. I of course welcome all record levels of youth employment, whether in Scotland, London or …..."Michael Tomlinson - View Speech

"I have listened carefully to the hon. Gentleman’s speech. If I may say so, it is a rather glass-half-empty sort of speech compared with some of the other contributions. He is absolutely right about some of the notes of caution in EY’s attractiveness survey, but does he accept that there …..."Michael Tomlinson - View Speech

Question
to the Department for International Trade:
To ask the Secretary of State for International Trade, what recent discussions he has had with the governments of ASEAN countries on future trade and investment opportunities.
Answered by Liam Fox
I recently visited Singapore and Vietnam, to reaffirm our strong bilateral economic and trade relations. In Singapore, we renewed our joint commitment to facilitating business partnerships and deepening our strong trade and investment ties. In Vietnam, we discussed taking forward trade and investment links to facilitate growth. In both countries, I reaffirmed the UK’s ongoing support towards the finalisation of existing negotiations for their respective Free Trade Agreements with the European Union.

However, the Minister said that this is a good trade deal. I would like to know …..."Michael Tomlinson - View Speech

Question
to the Department for International Trade:
To ask the Secretary of State for International Trade, what the current value is of UK-Israel bilateral trade; and what steps he plans to take to retain and strengthen the UK's trade relationship with Israel following the UK leaving the EU.
Answered by Mark Garnier
- Shadow Parliamentary Under Secretary (Work and Pensions)
Israel is an important trade partner for the UK. Bilateral trade in goods and services between the UK and Israel was £3.9 billion in 2015 (Source: Pink Book 2015).
With strong cooperation across multiple sectors the Department for International Trade is actively engaged in promotion activities to build UK exports across a range of sectors.
We will of course be making sustained efforts to retain and strengthen further these strong trade links with Israel when the UK leaves the EU.
