Question to the Department for International Trade:
To ask the Secretary of State for International Trade, whether he has set targets for UK trade (a) in Asia and (b) other countries outside of the EU once the UK has left the EU; and if he will make a statement.
Answered by George Hollingbery
Total UK trade with Asia was worth £216.6 billion in 2016. Total UK trade with countries outside of the EU was worth £584.1 billion in 2016. We are committed to establishing a culture of exporting in the UK and sustaining increased UK trade with the rest of the world, including Asia. We will shortly have appointed 9 HM Trade Commissioners who will be responsible for agreeing, directing and overseeing Regional Trade Plans for all overseas regions.
