Written Question
Legislative Consent Motions
Monday 30th January 2017

Asked by: Neil Gray (Scottish National Party - Airdrie and Shotts)

Question to the Department for Exiting the European Union :

To ask the Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, what steps his Department took prior to the Supreme Court ruling of 24 January 2017 to prepare draft legislative consent motions for the devolved administrations on the Bill on the Government triggering Article 50.

Answered by David Jones

The Supreme Court agreed with the Government's view that foreign affairs are a reserved matter. This Bill does not trigger the legislative consent process but we will continue to work closely with the Devolved Administrations.
