Written Question
Housing: Construction
Tuesday 26th January 2021

Asked by: Richard Bacon (Conservative - South Norfolk)

Question to the HM Treasury:

What fiscal steps he is taking to encourage self-build and custom housebuilding.

Answered by Kemi Badenoch - Leader of HM Official Opposition

The Government is committed to ensuring that self- and custom-build provision expands across the country – giving more people a greater say over their homes and communities.

At the Spending Review, we announced £2.2 billion of new loan finance to support SME housebuilders. This includes delivering ‘Help to Build’ for custom and self-builders.

Custom-builders can also access development finance through the Home Building Fund.

Part of the problem with the sovereign debt crisis—perhaps the biggest problem—was the equal treatment of lots of different kinds of sovereign assets, such as Greek Government bonds, when in fact they were nothing like equal.
