Great to welcome @J_Donaldson_MP to Monkstown tonight. We are determined to secure an outcome which respects and restores Northern Ireland’s place in the UK. A really useful engagement and looking forward to joining our excellent candidates on the campaign trail 🗳️ https://t.co/rdvoBd3DTW

The EU’s candour regarding the level of its interference in this part of the UK fully justifies our opposition to the Windsor Framework.
So much for the Government’s promise of frictionless trade between GB and NI. So much for their commitment to restoring Northern Ireland’s place in the UK Internal Market.
All of this depends on labels on each individual good, instructing that it is not for the EU. A requirement that will add costs which it is feared will put many companies off supplying the small NI market.
As of yet, neither the British Government or the EU will detail what those checks will entail. Even if the paperwork is right, 1 in 10 loads will be inspected physically.
Fourthly, documentary checks will be applied to 100% of loads coming into Northern Ireland for consumption only in Northern Ireland.
Thirdly, the EU will not be changing its laws until it is sure that inspections in these border posts are carried out to EU standards, which will have to be verified by EU officials permanently located at those posts.
Secondly, these border posts must meet the requirements of a full EU audit. This audit will be carried out by vets in the Irish Republic.
