Question
to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
What recent diplomatic steps he has taken to pursue a resolution to the conflict in Yemen.
Answered by Andrew Murrison
The UK fully supports the UN-led peace process and the efforts of UN Special Envoy, Martin Griffiths. I visited the region last week in support of UN efforts to make political progress and alleviate the humanitarian situation. I met Yemeni, Saudi, Emirati and Oman representatives, including President Hadi and Martin Griffiths. I urged all parties to engage constructively with the Special Envoy in order to reach an enduring political settlement in Yemen. The UK also hosted a Yemen Quad on 22 June, where partners underlined their commitment to a comprehensive political solution. A further Quad will be held shortly.

Question
to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, whether the Government has made an assessment of whether the airstrike by the Saudi-led coalition on Al-Kubra Hall in Sanhan, Yemen on 8 October 2016 was a legitimate military operation in line with international humanitarian law.
Answered by Andrew Murrison
The UK takes alleged violations of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) extremely seriously. Whenever the UK receives reports of alleged violations of IHL, we routinely seek information from all credible sources, including from Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and international organisations. The UK regularly encourages Saudi Arabia to conduct thorough and conclusive investigations into reports of alleged violations of IHL. We continue to believe that Saudi Arabia has the best insight into their own military procedures, in line with the standards we set for ourselves and our allies. The Coalition has publicly stated that it is investigating reports of alleged violations of IHL, and that any lessons learned will be acted upon.

"It is a pleasure to serve under your chairmanship, Mr Robertson. I draw your attention to a relevant entry in the register—I visited Liberia in 2017 with the fantastic organisation, RESULTS UK, to look at Liberia’s efforts to rebuild a public health system after the Ebola crisis. I congratulate the …..."Stephen Twigg - View Speech

"The focus of this inquiry was east Africa, because we felt that it merited specific attention. However, in the previous Parliament our first report was on the Syrian refugee crisis, and one of the things that we highlighted was that Christians, and indeed some other minorities, faced particular challenges in …..."Stephen Twigg - View Speech

"I thank the Minister.
I am conscious of time, so I will draw my remarks to a close. We were disappointed that the Government rejected the recommendation for a coherent cross-Government national UK strategy on displacement and migration.
