European Union (Withdrawal Agreement) Bill
"That is exactly why new clause 18(5) would allow Ministers to extend the reduced fees and the waiver scheme to everybody else. It would be entirely within the Minister’s gift to make sure such discrimination does not arise. What is discriminatory is the horrendous fee, which prohibits some kids from …..."Stuart C McDonald - View Speech

European Union (Withdrawal Agreement) Bill
"I am grateful to the hon. Gentleman for the speech he is making. Does he agree that the Minister is completely wrong to think that a declaratory system means that fewer people will apply after June next year? People will still have every incentive to apply for the settlement scheme, …..."Stuart C McDonald - View Speech

European Union (Withdrawal Agreement) Bill
"I wonder whether the hon. Lady can do something that the Minister could not. During her time in government, did she see an estimate of the number of EU citizens who, perhaps accidentally or because they did not fully understand their own immigration situation, will have failed to apply for …..."Stuart C McDonald - View Speech

European Union (Withdrawal Agreement) Bill
"I accept all that, just as the Opposition spokesperson accepted all that—in general, all is going well—but the difference between us is on the consequences of not applying. Under our system, people could still apply for years to come; under the Government’s proposed system they will not be able to. …..."Stuart C McDonald - View Speech

European Union (Withdrawal Agreement) Bill
"Thank you, Sir George. I thank all hon. Members for their contributions to this robust and very helpful debate in which I think every single speaker spoke of the contribution that EU nationals make to this country and the importance of protecting their rights.
So far so good, but beyond …..."Stuart C McDonald - View Speech

Compliance with the European Union (Withdrawal) (No. 2) Act 2019
"In some countries, Governments try to make compliance with the law considerably easier for themselves by making political appointments to the judiciary. Can the Minister please categorically rule out reports that the Government are seriously considering political appointments to the judicial bench?..."Stuart C McDonald - View Speech

EU/British Citizens’ Rights
"Contrary to what the Minister said earlier, the problem for the Windrush generation was not the fact that their status was declared in law; the problem was that they could not access documents to prove their status. Against that background, why do the Government continue to ignore calls from the3million …..."Stuart C McDonald - View Speech

Asked by:
Stuart C McDonald (Scottish National Party - Cumbernauld, Kilsyth and Kirkintilloch East)
Question
to the Department for Exiting the European Union :
To ask the Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, which pieces of retained EU law it has identified as unable to operate effectively after Brexit but it which it does not intend to remedy or mitigate under the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018.
Answered by Kwasi Kwarteng
The EU (Withdrawal) Act is a crucial piece of legislation that ensures we have a functioning statute book on exit day, providing certainty to people and businesses across the UK. A central list is not held in the form requested, but the Government remains confident of ensuring a functioning statute book for exit day.

Question
to the Department for Exiting the European Union :
To ask the Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, if he will make it his policy to seek to secure a ring-fenced agreement with the EU on citizens rights even if no agreement on other matters related to the UK leaving the EU can be concluded and ratified by 29 March 2018.
Answered by Robin Walker
The Government’s approach throughout this process has been to seek to agree all of the issues related to our withdrawal from the European Union. The agreement that we have reached on citizens’ rights is the only way of fully protecting the rights of all citizens.
The Prime Minister has been clear that EU citizens resident in the UK by the 29 March will be able to stay and have their rights protected. We published the Citizens’ rights: EU citizens and UK nationals policy paper on 6 December, which sets out further details of our offer to citizens in a no deal.
We are engaging Member States and urging them to reciprocate this offer for UK citizens in full.

EU Withdrawal Agreement
"I will start by trying to perform something of a Christmas miracle by striking a note of consensus for just a moment. I am sure that hon.
