Leaving the EU: Sectoral Impact Assessments

"I would be rather more interested in seeing the impact assessments drawn up by the EU of the impact of Britain leaving the EU and how that is affecting the EU’s negotiating position. Does my hon. Friend share my curiosity that Opposition Members are not keen to scrutinise those documents?..."

Written Question
Children and Young People: Disadvantaged
Wednesday 26th July 2017

Asked by: Tim Loughton (Conservative - East Worthing and Shoreham)

Question to the Department for Exiting the European Union :

To ask the Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, which policy areas relevant to vulnerable children and young people are under consideration in the negotiations on the UK leaving the EU.

Answered by Steve Baker

The Government is considering the effect that exiting the EU will have on vulnerable children and young people across a wide range of issues. It is vital that these interests are heard as we enter the negotiations. Officials from the Department for Exiting the European Union have already engaged with child and youth advocacy groups and will continue to do so in the coming weeks and months as part of our strategy to ensure that a wide range of stakeholder perspectives are factored into our approach to exit.

The UK has a longstanding tradition of ensuring that our rights and liberties are protected domestically and of fulfilling our international human rights obligations. The decision to leave the EU does not change that. The Repeal Bill will ensure that our rights and freedoms will be brought into UK law and this includes the rights of vulnerable children and young people.

European Union (Notification of Withdrawal) Bill

"The treaty of Lisbon clearly sets out the two-year term. Whether or not article 50 is irrevocable comes down to the weakness of the treaty of Lisbon itself, not the legal interpretation. Does the hon. Lady not agree that some of the best deals reached with the EU have been …..."

European Union (Notification of Withdrawal) Bill

"The hon. Gentleman will remember that his predecessor produced a leaflet that said only the Liberal Democrats would offer a “real referendum.” I presume that the Liberal Democrats had absolutely no idea of the implications if the people had actually voted to come out at that stage. The hon. Gentleman …..."
