"It is a pleasure to follow my right hon. Friend the Member for North Durham (Mr Jones), who gave a passionate speech about this being a tax on our constituents.

In West Yorkshire, our communities have suffered immeasurably from an almost decade-long assault on our police force’s budget. We have …..."

Hate Crime

"I have been approached by many in my constituency who are deeply concerned about these letters. As with last year’s Muslim ban, they feel unfairly targeted and under siege. "I, too, congratulate the hon. Member for Totnes (Dr Wollaston) on introducing this Bill. In my constituency, amazing work was done by the family of Clare Wood on Clare’s law, which was about the obligation of the police to disclose details of a history of violent behaviour if these were …..."

Written Question
Counter-terrorism
Tuesday 21st November 2017

Asked by: Tracy Brabin (Labour (Co-op) - Batley and Spen)

Question to the Home Office:

Whether her Department plans to review the effectiveness of the Prevent strategy.

Answered by Victoria Atkins - Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

The Prevent Programme is fundamentally about safeguarding and supporting vulnerable individuals to stop them from becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. In June, the Prime Minister outlined the Government’s commitment to review the UK’s counter-terrorism strategy (CONTEST), drawing on lessons learned from the recent attacks earlier this year. As the threat we face from terrorism becomes more complex, our strategy needs to evolve with it. The Prevent Strategy is being assessed as part of this review.
