Housing Benefit and Supported Housing
"Sometimes I genuinely struggle with the question whether some Conservative Members either care or are bothered. If you were really concerned about disabled and vulnerable people, you would have spent your five-minute speech talking about them, rather than criticising Labour Members for raising this issue and accusing us of shedding …..."Yasmin Qureshi - View Speech

Housing Benefit and Supported Housing
"I am so sorry, Madam Deputy Speaker; I got carried away.
If Members on the Government Benches were genuinely concerned about the vulnerable, they would be supporting our motion today, because it is only about specific sets and groups of people with a whole range of issues.
Going back to …..."Yasmin Qureshi - View Speech

Amendment of the Law
"Since this Government were elected five years ago, three mantras have been quoted by the Con Dems against the Labour party, and I want to debunk some of them. The first is the suggestion that, somehow, the global financial crisis was caused by the Labour party. [Laughter.] The second is …..."Yasmin Qureshi - View Speech

Amendment of the Law

Amendment of the Law
"No, no. To say that we are a party that does not believe in business or enterprise is wrong. We are a party with a social conscience. Some years ago, when my right hon. Friend the Leader of the Opposition talked about producers and predators, he was said to be …..."Yasmin Qureshi - View Speech

Question
to the Department for Work and Pensions:
To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, what estimate he has made of the proportion of people affected by the under-occupancy penalty who have subsequently moved into a smaller home.
Answered by Esther McVey
This information is not available.
It is not possible to calculate the proportion of those affected by the removal of the spare room subsidy policy to date due to the dynamic nature of the caseload (i.e. every month there are on-flows as well as off-flows). However a recent DWP ad hoc publication did show that between May and December 2013 around 19,000 of the caseload downsized within the social rented sector over this period. This is likely to be an understatement and it does not include those who have downsized to the private rented sector.
This represents around 10% of all those who during this period were no longer subject to a reduction in their housing benefit award due to the policy.

Question
to the Department for Work and Pensions:
To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, what recent discussions he has had with employers on the creation of collective defined contribution pension schemes.
Answered by Steve Webb
Officials and ministers have had a number of conversations, during the policy development and consultation process, with employers who may be potentially interested in establishing collective arrangements for their employees. We cannot give details of the organisations concerned due to commercial sensitivities. We also sought input about the types of schemes that might be attractive to employers through our Defined Ambition and Collective Industry Working Groups.

Question
to the Department for Work and Pensions:
To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, what recent assessment he has made of the potential merits of unfreezing state pensions for British citizens living in Commonwealth countries; and if he will make a statement.
Answered by Steve Webb
The policy of this Coalition Government on the up-rating of UK state pensions paid to people living overseas is the same as that of successive post-war Governments. Namely to up-rate such pensions where we are legally required to under the terms of EU law or a bilateral social security agreement. There are no plans to change policy on this issue.
