I have started this petition in a bid for legal aid to be available to ALL victims of domestic violence in private family proceedings. I was a victim of what a Criminal Court Judge described as "appalling" behaviour by the father of my child.

Despite being sent to prison as a result of his abusive behaviour, my ex pursued a private family court application for contact with our daughter. This meant that despite a restraining order being made in civil proceedings, my abuser was able to continue his campaign directly against me through the family courts.
Legal aid would have provided me with the safety of a solicitor during the proceedings, which after spending thousands in legal fees I could no longer afford later in proceedings
