Grant leave to remain to Brenda Ackerman and change the Immigration Rules

Brenda is a frail 71-yr-old South African who is at risk of being removed to SA. Brenda has been living with her daughter, British son-in-law and 19 & 16-yr-old granddaughters since 2006 & is dependent on them & they on her. Her removal risks resulting in “intense suffering” & “large risk of death”.

Since July 2012, the immigration rules have made it almost impossible for British citizens to bring their elderly parents to the UK to care for them. As Brenda’s barrister, I am calling on the Govt to change the Immigration Rules to the pre-2012 Immigration Rules which allowed British nationals and other settled persons to be joined by their parents/grandparents aged 65 & over if they could accommodate and maintain them without reliance on public funds to avoid situations like Brenda's arising.
