The 'European Research Group' (ERG) is a closed political group within the government that has been supported by Ministers through their expense claims. The Prime Minister is called upon to refer this to the Independent Advisor on Minister's Interests (IMAI) for investigation and action.

The ERG is a closed political lobby group within the government, or in other words a "non-public organisation whose objectives may in any degree conflict with government policy".
Various (ex)Ministers have supported this group through subscriptions claimed on expenses. This is in breach of the Ministerial Code. It is understood that public funds claimed could be in the order of over £250,000.
Only the Prime Minister can refer allegations to the IAMI - for investigation and repayment.
