The RAF recognises the historical significance of RAF Scampton. However, it is in a poor state of repair and would require considerable investment which would not be the best use of public money.

In November 2016 the MOD published ā€˜A Better Defence Estateā€™, outlining how the Department will deliver an estate optimised to support Defence capabilities, outputs and communities both now and in the future. Delivering the strategy is a priority for the MOD, and the Department remains committed to investing Ā£4Bn to create a smaller, more modern and capability-focused estate between now and 2040.

Nonetheless, the MOD recognises that RAF Scampton is a site of historical significance and will work with any new owners to deliver a long-term sustainable solution for preserving the important heritage, including consideration of the future of the Stationā€™s Heritage Centre.
