Ensure that funding from the lottery is given to transgender support charities

Mermaids is a registered charity which offers support to trans people under the age of 16. The Big Lottery Fund are reviewing their grant after they have received a ‘number of correspondence’. A lot of negative information around the charity has been circulated by the media.

The charity supports young people where at the moment there is little or no support. It is evident that it is the support which the charity offers which is the issue rather than any policy issues within the charity itself. Given this, the Government should set an objective to ensure that the Big Lottery Fund supports charities like Mermaids.
