Introduce national pay scales and terms of employment for Teaching Assistants.

Teaching Assistants are a most valuable asset to any school, any teacher, any pupil. TAs are undervalued and paid well below standards because currently it’s up to schools and Local Authorities to decide their salaries and employment conditions.

All TAs in all schools, and particularly those in Special Schools, carry out daily a highly skilled job that include medical support (flushing, suctioning, seizure handling etc), academic support, toileting, moving and handling safely, moral support to pupils and assisting teachers in all their requests.

Being a TA requires a patience of a saint, medical skills, academic skills and a great deal of empathy and human skills. Give them the national pay scale and conditions they really deserve.
