Pupil premium plus was introduced in order to give schools additional monies to support the needs of Looked after and post looked after pupils. For looked after students, this money is ring fenced via the PEP plan, but for post lac students it is generally put into the general pot.

Post LAC (adopted and care leavers) often have specific issues which differ from the general pupil premium population. Particularly those of adoptees, where trauma, speech and language, behavioural issues and exclusions are all much higher than the general population.
However, although the Government gives schools an enhanced pupil premium to deal with these issues, it is commonly put into the general pupil premium pot, instead of being used purely to support the child in need.
