Prohibit MPs from voting in parliament when under the influence of alcohol

Members of Parliament are currently permitted to drink alcohol during their working day. In no other comparable job affecting the welfare and security of the country is this acceptable or tolerated. The public has a right to expect MPs to be sober when they discharge their duties.

MPs should be prevented from voting when under the influence of alcohol. Any MP attempting to vote or having voted while being under the influence of alcohol should be found in breach of the MPs’ Code of Conduct and subject to disciplinary action.
“Under the influence of alcohol” is to be defined, for these purposes, as when an MP has consumed so much alcohol that the proportion of it in his or her breath, blood or urine exceeds the prescribed limit for driving in the UK.
