No overarching legislation currently exists to formally confer native species status or appropriate protection upon reintroduced wildlife driven to extinction by man and now reintroduced (by whatever means).

The survival of species with well-documented key-stone ecosystem roles, such as Eurasian beaver and wild boar, are gravely threatened by this legal limbo in England. Further, future potential reintroductions, with real promise to repair fractured ecosystems, such as Eurasian lynx, would be rendered vulnerable to persecution if full native species and legal protection were not extended.
