We ask that Parliament extend the existing ATOL protection scheme to all flights booked within the UK. Many websites display the ATOL logo, but not all consumers are aware that many flights are not protected for flight only bookings.

ATOL protection currently costs only £2.50 per booking, but will reimburse a traveller in the event of insolvency and repatriate British citizens back home. Operation Matterhorn is expected to cost £100m; with £60m being met by the ATOL fund, and the remainder to be paid for by the UK taxpayer.
With the recent insolvencies of Thomas Cook, Flybe and the COVID 19 outbreak severely affecting the travel industry it is clear that there is a gap in consumer protection.
