At the start of the COVID19 crisis the NHS had a critical care bed base among the worst in Europe and the UK had some of the lowest number of nurses and doctors per head amongst developed nations, according to the OECD. The government needs to understand why this happened and what can be done to change this situation to provide future resilience of the NHS.
