The Government should introduce mandatory training requirements, which emphasis de-escalation techniques, for police to be authorised to use tasers. Only police who have completed this training should be allowed to carry tasers.

All weapons including tasers should only be deployed in situations where it is absolutely clear that failure to do so would imminently lead to loss of life or serious injury. Yet there appear to have been recent incidents of taser use without credible justification with evidence that they are disproportionately used against BAME people.
This is not an anti-police position: a call for better training would better protect Officers and the public.
