Reform House of Lords so 50% of members are key workers selected by ballot

Reform the House of Lords and set up a ballot system so that key workers can make up half of the members. Any key worker that has been in their position for 5 years or more can apply for the ballot. Once selected they should serve 5-year fixed terms.

The House of Lords is unelected and therefore undemocratic. Key workers deserve a legacy and lasting recognition. We believe the House of Lords does not represent us, and that the inclusion of key workers would help rebalance the democratic deficit.

We should embrace a second chamber that combines professions such as refuse collectors, surgeons, carers, nurses, delivery drivers, and supermarket workers.
