Many self-employed workers and small businesses will have been eligible for small business rate relief during the 2019/2020 tax year but may have left their place of business before 11 March 2020. These businesses may have seen their profits and income fall due to the outbreak, and may have debts from the costs of their business premises during that time. Extending this grant should help many businesses and self-employed workers during an incredibly difficult time.
