Reduce the checking period for petitions on UK Government & Parliament website

The Government has announced it will only acknowledge petitions hosted on this site. The process includes a check "to make sure it meets the petition standards" before publication, which can take up to a week. The Government and House of Commons should ensure this takes a maximum of 24 hours.

In a democracy, the public has the right to respond to decisions that the Government has made with urgency.

By ignoring petitions hosted on other sites and forcing petitioners to wait up to a week for their petition to go live, the public's ability to react is being stifled.

In a week, irreversible consequences may have already taken place or more recent breaking news might arise and take precedence. The Government and House of Commons should be mitigating these possibilities, not facilitating them.
