Make it easier for children of migrants to access higher education funding

Lower how long someone has to have been resident in the UK to apply for leave to remain, and lower how long someone has to have been resident in the UK to apply for student finance from 3 years to 1. Also lower both the cost of reapplying and how many times you need to reapply for leave to remain.

Current policy excludes undocumented children from accessing higher education. Some will not have been in the UK for half their lives by their 25th birthday, and the amount of time it takes to get leave to remain, as well as how long the application itself takes, means that some won't have been lawful residents long enough to access student finance.

The BBC article 'Raised in the UK, barred from university' (23/06/20) shows the damaging effect this is having on a generation of young people.
