Provide funding for a Plasma and Platelet donation centre in Essex

Brentwood Centre, Essex’s only Plasma and Platelet donation centre, was closed by NHSBT in 2017. Providing the NHSBT with funds would allow a centre to be opened again, once again providing high levels of blood products for not only Essex but the whole country.

Convalescent Plasma can only be obtained via Apheresis, Platelets can be obtained via whole Blood and Apheresis. There is nowhere for residents of Essex to donate other than by expensive train journeys to London or driving to Cambridge .This deters many willing donors. Drop-in centres do not cater for this kind of donation so a fixed centre is vital. Donors should not be financially penalised for donating a free product, vital to our NHS. Essex needs a Centre now.
