Change the UK to a 4 day working week

Typically in the UK people working full time work 40 hours over 5 days. This should be changed to 32 hours over 4 days, This should be achieved through changing public service working practices and legislation.

This petition was rejected on 25th Sep 2020 for not being a Government or Parliamentary matter

The Petition Committee commented:
We can't accept your petition because it's about something that the UK Government and Parliament are not responsible for. This would be a decision for employers. UK law places limits on the total amount of time someone can work during a week and the minimum amount they can be paid an hour, but it doesn't specify how many or which days of the week they have to work. You could start a new petition calling for a law placing limits on the number of days someone is allowed to work during a week if that is something you would like to see happen.

We are facing unprecedented crisis: Covid, Financial, Unemployment, Mental health, Climate. A move to a 4 day working week of around 32 hours a week will help all these crisis. The unemployment crisis instantly disappears with 20% more jobs available Covid transmission will be reduced with less people needing to meet to work. The Climate will be helped with reduced consumption and commuting etc. and mental health will be improved with more time to do the things we love.
