The government should allow the assessment of asylum seekers at the Calais border and provide safe passage to the UK while their claim is being processed in exactly the same way in which asylum seekers arriving at an airport are. This measure would afford the same security to asylum seekers attempting to reach the UK by boat or lorry as those who arrive by air.
