Do not mothball the tank it is an important part of the defence of the country

The Government is thinking of mothballing the tank. We think this would be a bad idea and has not been seriously thought through. In today's fragile times, Russia is estimated to have a ten-to-one advantage in tank power.

The tank has been an integral part of Britain's defence weapons system for decades. Instead of mothballing the tank the government should be looking at producing better more sophisticated modern tanks. British tanks have always been the envy of the world. In fact the tanks used by Israel to defeat the Arab Soviet-supplied tanks in the 1967 six day war included British-made Centurions. Britain was one of the first countries to invent and use tanks in the first world war. Britain has a proud history of tank design and technology by mothballing our tank fleet could leave the defence of the country vulnerable.
