Ban the use of plastic fishing nets for commercial fishing

A survey found that approximately 46% of the plastic in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch is made up of fishing nets, but we have the ability to change that. There are already other, more sustainable methods of fishing, so why not use them instead of plastic fishing nets?

The Government should ban the use of plastic fishing nets for commercial fishing for ships and waters where the UK has jurisdiction. This could drastically reduce the amount of plastic going into the ocean.
