Retract DfE guidance banning use of anti-capitalist material in schools

Freedom of information is an essential part of maintaining democracy. As a teacher, I believe students should be allowed to be exposed to anti-capitalist material in order to make an informed choice and engage in free political thought. It is vital these ideas are taught in a safe academic setting.

Young people need to be allowed to determine their own future. Other “extreme political stances” (such as racism) are tied up with capitalism, and in order to adhere to the Prevent strategy, relevant information about political ideologies needs to be taught appropriately, so that students do not seek out unsafe spaces where they may be vulnerable to radicalisation and other associated dangers.
