Remove exemptions allowing funeral attendance by people who are self-isolating

The current exemption that allows close family member who are self-isolating to attend funerals puts funeral professionals and mourners at risk and flies in the face of all the work the sector has done to keep mourners and staff safe throughout the pandemic.

The current rules could mean that the entire staff of small funeral companies and venues could be required to self-isolate. This would have a knock on effect on other funerals, and impact businesses.

The legislation does not detail what constitutes a ‘close relative’, and is therefore open to interpretation and potentially abuse.
