Get rid of the cap on statutory redundancy pay

The Government should omit the £16,140 cap on statutory redundancy pay. This would recognise and reward longevity for long term employees who are being made redundant. All years worked should count.

It is unfair for redundancy for someone who has worked in a company or business for many years not to reflect the totality of the time they worked there.

A) This encourages companies to get rid of long-term employees at a capped price.

B) It goes against concepts of loyalty and long-term employment.

C) Puts long-term employees to disadvantage.
