Require online businesses to verify advertisers' identity to protect consumers

The Government should regulate online advertising by requiring online platforms selling ads to verify the identity of advertisers and publish this information. This could help authorities investigate complaints and identify individuals using misleading adverts, and prevent misinformation and scams.

All online adverts should be clearly associated with an individual who has verified their identity. Everyone should be able to access the advertisers' information such as name and registered company. It should be easy and free to access.

This could be done by looking up the advertisers' domain on a list or database, placed on the website or app which displayed the advert.

Online advertising must be more regulated, to protect vulnerable users.
