The Government should remove the ability of Ministers to “call in” and take decisions on planning applications that would normally be decided at a local level.

Ministers are currently allowed to overrule decisions made through the democratic planning permission processes. This is undemocratic and can both create opportunities for and the appearance of external interests being able to influence ministerial decision making. This contributes to a weakening of people's trust in UK government.
