Increase the minimum legal allocation of protected PPA time to 20%

Increase the legal minimum allocated time for teachers to have protected for planning and assessment to 20%, which would be the equivalent of 1 hour a day for planning, preparation, assessment and admin. This needs to be a legal requirement for all teachers that hold QTS, irrespective of employer.

Currently the legal minimum of protected preparation and assessment time for teachers is equavilent to 30 minutes a day. Due to increased admin tasks associated with digital learning, which will be a permanent change in teaching, this needs to be increased to the equivalent of 1 hour a day PPA time.
Across the country teachers work days with 8 hours contact time, and then still need to do daily PPA activities, increasing the legal minimum PPA time ensures employers responsibility to employees
