Alter the criteria required to qualify for agricultural subsidy to exclude sectors which do not generate any important food source, (e.g. land management for grouse shooting). A threshold of minimum food production per hectare should be implemented.

Grouse moors in England provide only 1520 full time jobs in England (2016, Countryside alliance, National gamekeepers association), and occupy 8% of the total land area of Britain. No food source of significant importance is provided by management of land for grouse shooting. Grouse moors represent a devastatingly inefficient waste of land use. Agricultural subsidies are intended to maintain stable food prices, and taxpayers are not getting value for money by supporting this wasteful industry.
