The cap which restricts the UK to having 180 nuclear weapons should not be lifted to 260, a move which paves the way for a £10 billion rearmament.

In January, an international treaty went into effect which bans nuclear weapons. This was ratified by over 50 countries, yet the largest nuclear powers of the world did not sign. The treaty made it unlawful to stockpile or even test weapons, and it is unacceptable that the UK Government has not signed up to this treaty, and is acting contrary to its aims.

What’s more, we could only afford to award NHS staff with a 1% pay rise, and 4.2 million children were living in poverty in 2019, so £10 billion on nuclear weapons is a disgrace.
