Provide funding so all type 1 diabetics can receive Flash or CGM

The Government should provide the NHS with funding to cover ‘Flash’ or Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) devices for all Type 1 diabetics. Currently these devices are only used by around 20% of type 1 diabetics and funding can vary depending on where you live.

These devices improve blood glucose control which in turn can prevent long-term complications such as sight loss, limb amputation, kidney disease, stroke and circulatory issues to name but a few. All of these complications cost the NHS significant amounts of money and cause those suffering from complications to require ongoing care and support at a great cost. These devices inform the users to make appropriate medical and lifestyle choices which increase wellbeing and decrease health needs.
