At present companies and individuals can own .uk websites, irrespective of where they are domiciled. Consumers buy from these sites, expecting service in the UK, only to be presented with import duties and VAT. This can frustrate consumers attempts to source products locally and can unfairly disadvantage local companies. Restricting the use of .uk websites to companies or individuals that are domiciled in the UK would help prevent this.
