The Food Labelling Regulations 1996 describes "alcohol-free" as any drink that "has an alcoholic strength by volume of not more than 0.05%". Anything above 0% should be described as "low alcohol" to avoid people being mislead into thinking an "alcohol-free" drink truly has no alcohol in it.

I have, or thought I had, been entirely free of alcohol consumption until discovering that "alcohol-free" actually means a drink that "has an alcoholic strength by volume of not more than 0.05%". There are people in the world, such as recovering alcoholics and religious people, who are proud of the fact that they have consumed no alcohol since they stopped drinking. It is not fair that these people should discover that their drink, labeled as "alcohol-free" has even a morsel of alcohol in it.
