Environmental refugees should have the same legal rights as refugees of conflict and persecution, including a legal right to stay. The UK government should provide support for adaptation and mitigation measures in developing nations to preemptively minimise displacement.

Providing developing countries with the money they need to make crucial adaptations to climate change and other environmental challenges is essential.
As climate change is already affecting communities all over the world, including right here in the UK, we need to ensure there is a legal and policy framework in place to protect climate refugees.
Estimates suggest there are already more than 40 million environmental refugees, action must be taken now as this will increase in the years to come.
