Give people on family visas Indefinite Leave to Remain after 2 years

The Government should amend the rules for the spouse and family visas for dependents of British citizens so that they are eligible for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), as was the case for people on spousal visas before 2012.

It is not fair to make the requirements for gaining ILR harder for spouses and other family members of British citizens than for some other routes. If someone has a British spouse/children they should be treated better by the Home Office, because this is the country of their family and may be their country sooner or later.

The law should return for what it used to be before July 2012 for spouses, with the ILR route reduced to 2 years, and also extended to all family visas.
