Ambulances which can’t accommodate wheelchairs means people with limited mobility are put into hospital wheelchairs where they can be unable to access help and assistance. Disabled people may then find it difficult to return home safely.

Under the 2010 Equality Act reasonable adjustments should be made for wheelchair users. There is no equality in a loss of independence and safety.

Because most ambulances cannot carry electric wheelchairs and patients may be placed in a hospital wheelchair, patients should also have access to staff in case they require assistance to get to somewhere else and to alert them to their worsening condition.
